A Call To Oneness: A Day of Reconciliation
20,000 African American Men March in Kansas City, MO
A broad-based event focused on solutions (Sept. 12 – 14, 2008)
(KANSAS CITY, MO) – About 20,000 African American men will march through the urban core of
Kansas City, Missouri to reclaim their communities through reconciliation, respect for each other
and the sanctity of life as part of a community-wide initiative entitled “A Call To Oneness.”
A Call to Oneness is a community-wide initiative designed to bring together African American
males from all walks of life – the professional, the blue collar, the unemployed, the disenfranchised
and the forgotten. A Call To Oneness seeks to find real solutions to real problems that plague our
people and the communities where they live.
The Rev. Ronald Lindsay, event coordinator, said, “When you live in one of the cities which leads
the nation in homicides, you don’t have many options in terms of thinking about doing something.
By addressing the issues at hand in thought provoking forums, creating strategies for employment
and intervention then marching through the streets of the urban core, we hope to create a moral
climate. We hope to reclaim, through the vehicle of reconciliation, respect for each other and the
sanctity of life.”
Rev. Darron Edwards notes, “A community-wide prayer service will be held Wednesday, August
27th at Canaan Worship Center (Pastor Tony Cobbins) located at 5333 East Bannister Road. The
main event weekend will kick off with a “State of Emergency” Panel Discussion on Friday,
September 12, 7p-10p, followed by “A Day of Information and Implementation” on Saturday, September 13
in various venues around the city, 10a-12:30a. Saturday will present a series of classes, a special political
access strategy led by the Dr. Wallace S. Hartsfield, Sr. and “speak out” forums which deal with
moral issues and concerns facing the African American community and the urban core
environment. Sunday will conclude this phase of the movement by participating in a grand march
that will culminate at Central Park located at 3501 East 31st Street at 2PM. This reconciliation march will
draw attention to the synergy gained from a weekend of workshops, panel discussions and
informational forums”.
